Looking Twice: Underground

2015

A fantastic exhibition title that totally befitted the venue. A September exhibition at the subterranean gallery, hidden away in the top right corner of Norwich Market. Would the Undercroft Gallery flood this year?

The expansive concrete space lends itself to large scale work and installations. Colour has a dramatic impact in this venue and there were some wonderfully vibrant abstract portraits and photography featured in Looking Twice: Underground. Some artists chose to play with the whimsy of the exhibition title, delighting with inanimate objects anthropomorphised into giant spiders and evocative sculpture to inspire the imagination.

With all the dream-like qualities of Alice in Wonderland, the LAC once again maximised the effectiveness of bringing diverse artists together to create a show that worked brilliantly on so many levels.
