THE LONELY ARTS CLUB
Haven
2018
Set in the wonderful grounds of Norwich Cathedral, The Hostry became a new venue for the LAC. Haven felt like a very appropriate name for the exhibition, as the Cathedral is a sanctuary to so many, from the buzz of the city. It is a place of reflection; walking in the cloisters or sitting in the beautiful grounds is a respite.
With a contemplative mindset, themes can be identified in the artwork featured in Haven. A recurring motif is man-made objects in a natural setting; whether it is a building on a mountain-side (Miki Allouis’ traditional Chinese brush paintings) or Mike Dodd’s inflection on the landscape with ‘Sheltered’ - his painting encircling a tree.
