THE LONELY ARTS CLUB
Simon Brooke

I’m a multi-Emmy Award-winning illustrator, animator and motion designer with over 30 years’ experience. Alongside my commercial work, I’ve developed a personal mixed media practice rooted in automatic drawing and intuitive mark-making. Through drawing, collage, animation, writing and sound, I create space for instinctive responses to emerge, allowing memory, emotion and lived experience to shape the work.
My projects often begin with immersive research, experimental writing or self-constructed soundscapes, becoming a way of exploring subjects that are difficult to express through words alone. Working across both traditional and digital media, I embrace spontaneity and layered processes to create work that invites reflection rather than offering definitive answers.

My practice has explored social, environmental and deeply personal themes, from work inspired by Extinction Rebellion and responses to the 2024 riots, to more recent explorations of memory, grief and perception. Whether working commercially or independently, I’m driven by a curiosity about how images can communicate what language often cannot.
